Jan Aushadi - A growing Threat for Indian Branded Pharmaceutical Company Valuations

Jan Aushadi campaign is a concept of a nationwide chain of pharmacy stores, which would deliver essential medicines to patients at affordable prices. The Jan aushadi stores would sell unbranded generic drugs, which would be similar to the branded generic drugs in quality (efficacy and safety). There are currently about 110 stores across Indian and the department of pharmaceuticals has annoucned its intention of opening upto 3000 stores.  Jan aushadhi stores are generally established  in Government hospital premises or at other suitable location in all the Districts of all the States and union Territories.
Rajasthan, which has the largest number of Jan Aushadi stores has already issued guidelines in hospital to doctors to prescribe only generic drugs.
